Deputy head of Education Department of Klaipėda District Administration Nijolė Gotlibienė participated in Youthful Cities Commission meeting "Digital renewal from a youth perspective",on 4-7 of April in Gävle, Sweden. Youthful Cities Commision is the part of the Union of the Baltic Cities.
The city of Gävleis growing and constantly working with development in all kinds of areas. One of the most important area is digital renewal.
According to Mayor of Gävle, they work broadly to adopt digitalization opportunities and they are determined to face challenges in a proper way. They have for some years had additional targeted measures toward schools with the introduction of e.g. computers and iPads, bet they have also embraced new methods and educational challenges.
School children in Gävle have also built up central Gävle in Minecraft.
At the moment they are also developing initiatives on, among other things, „choice of school“ and improved communication between teachers and students in both the Culture School and the Adult Education School.
During 2017 the Mayor is planning to begin the implementation of free Wi-Fi zones in the city and also targeted measures towards recreational facilities.
This meeting created space for exchange of knowledge and promoted further cooperation among the Union of the Baltic Cities.
